Abstract/Summary
Weather has become a part of everyone's lives because it can affect their daily plan. Especially today, our world faces drastic weather changes. In our country, the Philippines, weather forecasting needs further developments.
Weather forecasting is a combination of different complex factors. Suct factor is cloudiness reading which plays a very important role in determining a complete and accurate weather forecast data. The ones who are responsible for all weather advisories and information in our country is PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration).
Currently, cloudiness reading is manually operated and therefore lacks consistency. Thus, an automated cloudiness reading system will be a big improvement.
The group designed a system that will automatically capture atmospheric images, store it in a server computer and provide the cloudinesss reading for a given time. The system used a GPRS module that can send captured images to the server computer and can be viewed together with its cloudiness reading. The system was installed and tested in a high rise building to minimize obstruction in the resulting image. PAGASA verified the data gathered to be accurate and reliable.
