Abstract/Summary
This research aims to identify the different stereotypes that are associated to domestic helpers by other people. In analyzing their perceptions, the researchers used the social identity theory. Filipina domestic helpers, who are currently working in other countries, were interviewed. The results show that there were 6 major themes such as reasons for deciding to work as domestic helpers, Experiences of domestic helpers, Positive Stereotypes of domestic helpers, Negative Stereotypes of domestic helpers, Perception of domestic helpers and Effects of Stereotypes. The findings of this study revealed that there are negative and positive social identities about Filipino domestic helpers depending on the environment they are in.
