Abstract/Summary

There are many strategies for teaching vocabulary and spelling to children, and one of them is through word play. Through this strategy children are not only encouraged to analyze the connections between words but as well as keep them interested in learning. Pun World is a learning environment that interfaces with T-PEG, Unisyn, WordNet and ConceptNet to enable children to not only associate words with each other but also learn the differences of these words. It is a tool in teaching children vocabulary and spelling, presenting another alternative for teacher to teach and children to learn. This maximizes the use of available linguistic resources such as T-PEG, WordNet, Unisyn and ConceptNet to learn and generate puns, manipulate the key words to tailor fit each activity and to provide definitions for these key words.
