Abstract/Summary
The study focuses on the state of figure skating and of flourishing Filipino figure skaters in the Philippines. Figure skating is invariably less popular compared to more common male-dominated sports such as basketball and boxing, but this sport is becoming a potential avenue for Filipino figure skaters who have shown excellence in this sport, especially among women. Women empowerment is also a recurring theme in this study for it accentuates the strength of the protagonist of the film, Crystal, who grows from being timid to being strong-willed and independent, both as n athletic and as a maturing lady.
