Abstract/Summary
The study attempts to propose an initial public offering as a tool for sustainability in Filipino family businesses. Using the case of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., a media audit was conducted to gather data about the company, and subsequently subjected to content analysis to determine the companys strategies and performance over the span of its existence. In addition, a survey of customers was conducted to get a picture of its corporate image. The study found the company to be sustainable to get a picture of its corporate image. The study found the company to be sustainable through its ability to adapt, innovate, transfer, and grow continuously throughout its lifespan, continuously have positive financial performance, and maintain a positive corporate image. Key strategies utilized in the adaptation stage are capacity expansion and capitalizing on government incentives: strategic partnerships, low-cost differentiation, and product development for innovation strategies market development for transfer strategies and development for innovation strategies market development for transfer strategies and initial public offering and corporate social responsibility activities for growth strategies. The study contributes to sustainability literature through the suggestion that sustainability is multidimensional and must take into consideration the companys internal and external environment. The initial public offering brought competitive advantages to the company in the form of capital that was used to maximize opportunities in its external environment and adapt, innovative, transfer, and grown a faster pace them before IPO. It allows them to implements strategies in keeping with its mission, while keeping its financial management in check. Thus, the IPO is an effective tool for attaining sustainability.
