Abstract/Summary
The research studied the differences in level of psychological empowerment among students of different universities, according to social class. The two main variables in the study were psychological empowerment, which is a social process that helps students act and gain control over their decisions and lives and social class, which is defined as where the particular student falls on the social hierarchy. The research's first question aims to describe the level of PE among students of different social class. The second research questions asks if social class can account for the variances in psychological empowerment in students. A quantitative research design and a purposive sampling method was applied, using the Psychological Empowerment Among Students Scale , developed by Ozer and Schotland in 2011. The results were analyzed for descriptive statistics and through the use of One-Way Analysis of Variance to test for differences among the comparison groups (the different social classes). The results showed now-significant differences in the levels of psychological empowerment among students according to social class. Possible reasons for these results include the inherently Filipino values present in the students such as pakikilahok and pakikisangkot , as well as the possibility of students being more idealistic in their youth, and the external influences on psychological empowerment which include the growing advance of technology and its effect on social classes.
