Abstract/Summary
The study is about the safety practices of the contractors involved in the construction of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT III) Project. Two project sites were visited, these sites were handled by different contractors, namely EEI Corporation and Uy-Pajara-PNCC Consortium. Safety practices executed during different construction activities were observed. Safety standards from different regulating agencies were assessed in evaluating the safety practices of the two contractors. The study showed that the EEI Job Safety Evaluation form has proven to efficient in evaluating safety practices, which is based from DOLE-OSHS. Moreover, the study showed that EEI Corporation gave more importance in implementing its safety practices unlike that of Uy-Pajara-PNCC Consortium, who is quite lenient in implementing its safety practices. The study also showed that EEI Corporation has a lesser number of worker injuries due to accidents than that of Uy-Pajara-PNCC Consortium. The study also recommends that safety conditions be quantified using provisions set by the governing agencies of our sector as an improvement of the study. This is to eliminate the personal judgement or personal bias of the evaluator.
