Abstract/Summary

The Preventive Maintenance (PM) System, cost benefit analysis and PM Program were based on data gathered from surveys of AAA companies, interviews done with various people from the field of concepts from books and past researchers.

This study developed a Preventive Maintenance System for the following equipment: Backhoe, Loader and Roller/Compactor. This system contains management objectives, procedures and monitoring system flowchart. The study also involved a cost benefit analysis between equipment with breakdown maintenance vs. preventive maintenance. The running hours prior to overhaul, repair cost and opportunity loss were compared to ascertain the cost effectiveness of preventive maintenance. A computer program based on maintenance management principles was likewise developed. In this program, equipment-monitoring items such the operating, downtime and standby hours are recorded. The fuel, oil and water consumption costs are also reflected in the program. Furthermore, this software would remind the user to implement a preventive maintenance service every after specific number of operating hours. This would consequently help in the record keeping of companies and serve as reference for future evaluation of equipment and PH system.
