Abstract/Summary

The full-featured digital storage oscilloscope is a device displaying electronic signal waveform to a PC. It is composed of a logic analyzer circuit with an expansion module, and a PC.

The logic analyzer circuit samples and stores data which can be displayed for later viewing. For the system to function as a digital storage oscilloscope, an expansion module is connected to the logic analyzer circuit. The logic analyzer circuit cannot process analog signals, only digital signals can be processed. Thus, analog signals, if converted to digital, can be processed by the analyzer circuit. This is what the expansion module does, it converts the analog signals to digital signals.

A software will run the device to display the signals. The software is a Windows-based Visual C++ program that is developed to have it interfaced in the parallel port. However, it will not properly run below the minium hardware memory requirement of 32MB RAM, and in Windows 98 since the program requires high memory allocation.
