Abstract/Summary

The current scenario of the traffic situation in Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) led to the development of many traffic schemes like the Modified Bus Segregation Scheme (MBSS) which aims to decongest EDSA through the improvement of the operation of public utilities buses (PUB). However, designers of these schemes must consider the operational characteristics of PUBs. This paper aims to study the operational characteristics of PUBs, specifically, non-aircon PUBs during morning and afternoon peakhours. The 30 boarding check samples (15 samples before MBSS and 15 samples under MBSS) collected, based on a conducted vehicular volume survey, were analyzed to determine certain parameters (like run speed, journey time distribution, etc.) These information were used to compare and determine the effect of the MBSS to the operation of non-aircon buses in EDSA. However, the study was limited to non-aircon buses plying EDSA during morning and afternoon peakhours.
