Abstract/Summary
Abstract. SteelDRAW is a Windows-based computer software that facilitates the process of designing using structural steel shapes that can be found in the AISC Manual and the ASEP Handbook.
The main task of the program is to design, that is, to draw a shape that can carry the load specified by the user without the use of manual calculations or design aids from a database. This dabatase contains structural steel products. The program hastens the process of design. SteelDRAW can design for axial, flexure and shear loading or combined loading. The loads serve as inputs and the corresponding steel shape is given as output.
The program has an iterative process of determining which section of a shape is capable of carrying the particular load. The result of the process shall contain all the possible sections of a specified shape or steel members and the user has the option to choose the most economical section or that which best suits his need.
Stell/DRAW is user-friendly. A User's Manual is provided to provide a step-by-step procedure on how to utilize the program and design for a given action.
