Abstract/Summary
Many Filipino families are now experiencing difficulties in making ends meet. Now, more and more mothers are working to help in the family income. These working mothers comprise an increasing number in the country's population. Female-headed households are now increasing in proportion. This study aims to show the challenges these working mothers encounter as breadwinners of the family. For this study, the researchers will focus on the challenges encountered in the working mother's relationship with her husband and children. Also, coping strategies working mothers make use of in order to maintain their relationship with their husbands and children are likewise presented in this study. The respondents are 9 working mothers, earning majority of the family income. In-depth interviews were used to gather the needed data for the study. Results of the study revealed that the working mothers encounter many challenges in the maintenance of their relationship with their families and these are focused on the aspects of money, responsibility, time, communication and personality. Yet, despite the hardships working mothers are faced with, majority still remains to be satisfied with their relationships with their relationships with their husbands and children, and are able to cope well with the situation.
