Abstract/Summary

Jess Abrera : Isang kartunista sa mundo ng Pulitika is a20-minute video documentary chronicling Jess Abrera's life as the country's premier political cartoonist for the last 16 years-showing his humble beginnings as a freelance artist in the early 80's to currently being one of the most enduring and influential artist in the country.

Beginning with a brief background of the origins of political cartoons, it also showcases the different works of Mr. Abrera that earned him his reputation as a hard-hitting but humorous cartoonist. Utilizing interviews and accounts from his superiors, former bosses, family and friends, the project intends to document a fairly accurate picture of the man behind the famous cartoons we see in newspapers everyday.

It aims to appeal to students who is just learning about the state of contemporary politics in the country or to anyone who is fascinated about the way cartoons are able to serve as an instrument for arousing public awareness while doing a little educating or enlightening as well. And also for those who believe in cartoons as a medium capable of documenting history too.
