Abstract/Summary

Abstract. Contractors of different classes only aim is to maximize the profit. In achieving this aim, delays are prevented and better eliminated. Delays in construction projects and wastage of materials result to additional costs and will eventually lead to losses. The purchasing of materials plays a crucial role in minimizing these costs, therefore avoiding losses.

In this study, several construction companies and contractors were taken into consideration and were surveyed. The results of the survey would present the problems encountered by contractors in the procurement of materials. These problems would then be identified, tabulated and analyzed. Case studies were made to different companies in order to have a closer and detailed understanding of each of purchasing system. Comparisons of the different purchasing processes of various contractors were done. Key points from each purchasing process of each construction company were account, including the advantageous and disadvantageous. Based on the findings and insights gained, a new and revised purchasing system is formulated, which includes a new format for purchasing forms.
