Abstract/Summary
A total of eighty high-achieving high school students from different private schools in the Southern part of Metro Manila who must currently be in first to fourth year levels, excel in both their academic and extra-curricular activities were asked to participate in the study. In order to find out the influence of parents, teachers, and peers to the high-achieving behavior that these adolescents manifest, a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale was asked for them to complete. After which, the gathered data were analyzed through the use pf chi-square method and multiple regression statistical procedures. Results showed that, the teachers have the greatest influence on the high-achieving adolescent by virtue of their effect on the student's self-concept. Interestingly, the parents only ranked second which may be mainly attributed to the increasing autonomy of adolescents from their parents and the phenomenon in loco parentis . When two of the three variables were combined with one partially out or held constant, it was known that peer reinforcement is very important. A good relationship with parents and teachers may be useless if the adolescent is unaccepted by his peers. At the moment ppers were paired with either the parent or the teacher, with either the parent or teacher partially out or held constant, the impact of the relationship on the achievement behavior of adolescents seemed to be stronger. Further explanation of results and suggestions for future research were also discussed.
