Abstract/Summary

A computer software was developed using Delphi and Turbo Pascal language to design circular and rectangular columns under uniaxial and biaxial bending. Exact method was used instead of the more commonly used Bressler's method and load contour approach in analyzing rectangular columns subjected to bending on both axes. It runs on a Windows-based environment and is user-friendly. With very minimal inputs (loading, material properties, etc.), the program determines the appropriate number and size of bars for the longitudinal reinforcements and the spacing of the transverse reinforcements. It features easy inputting and editing of data and allows saving and retrieving of files. The program has an interactive single screen desktop showing the column properties and the graphic cross section of the column which can be printed together with the design results. The software occupies only 3MB of hard disk space and includes a user's manual. This computer software can be used by the civil engineering department (faculty and students) as an aid in structural designs.
