Abstract/Summary
Water is a natural resource that is necessary for human survival, sanitation, and recreation. Water distribution systems (WDS) are the main tools and technologies that help humans transfer water from a reservoir, or a water source, to the active consumers.
The researchers chose to study the WDS located in Batangas City, Philippines because this system is located in a rolling terrain with a range of over 100 meters in elevation. When dealing with such a unique terrain, concise pressure management becomes crucial in order to meet consumer demands. The researchers look into understanding, mapping, and analyzing the WDS with the use of modelling software such as EPANET2, together with supplemental software like QGIS.
The Batangas WDS was subjected to a demand-driven analysis (DDA), and a pressure-driven analysis (PDA) wherein variables were controlled in order to successfully run the program, and produce reliable information about the WDS. The researchers were able to locate the nodes where the given pressure is unable to satisfy varying consumer demand. With these findings, the Batangas community could benefit by being prepared to when an increased demand is apparent in their system.
