Abstract/Executive Summary
Traffic congestion is a widespread issue for commuters, influenced by multiple factors and variables. One such area affected is Laguna Boulevard, a critical road connecting multiple essential facilities in Biñan and Sta. Rosa, including Laguna Technopark and educational institutions like De La Salle University Laguna Campus and Caritas Don Bosco School. The roadway experiences significant congestion during peak hours due to high traffic volumes along segments and intersections impacted by uncoordinated road expansions, inconsistent transitions between one-way and two-way flows, limited sight distances, and obstructive roadside elements that collectively disrupt vehicular movement and compromise safety. This study proposes a replanned traffic utility and road marking placement for critical segments and intersections along Laguna Boulevard while minimizing accident risks and maximizing traffic resources. The methodology of this study primarily involves analyzing real-time traffic conditions across Laguna Boulevard, taken from Google Maps’ live traffic layer. Over a two-week period, the traffic data was collected during peak and non-peak hours, tracking the color-coded congestion levels of each segment. The results were then used to identify critical segments and intersections. Revisions were proposed to segments and intersections with significant safety risks (e.g., limited sight distance and obstructive roadside elements) and layouts that may have been confusing or unclear to drivers. The researchers were able to identify more congested traffic values along the southern segments and intersections of the roadway, and were further narrowed down to three critical intersections and one critical segment. Non-invasive revisions were proposed for these critical sections of the roadway based on congestion and safety risks inherent in their current layouts and conditions. This approach provided a comprehensive insight into the current traffic dynamics along Laguna Boulevard, ultimately aiding the development of an effective proposal tailored to specific needs.
