Corallum massive, its upper surface broken up into rounded heads, intervening valleys shallow or deep. Living portion around 3.5 cm from top, its edge continuous with surface of dead portion of corallum, in some places a thin epitheca creeps upward from edge.
Calicles angular, slightly depressed. Wall a close reticulum; that of the lower calicle low, that of upper calicles higher because of the median ridge composed of flattened granules usually standing at right angle to wall and joined together by synapticulae.
Septa abundantly spinulate, usually thinner than intervening loculi, except in lower calicles where they are slightly thicker. One or 2 granules on each septum. Septal formula quite regular, with lateral members of triplet oftentimes not joined to ventral directive. The four pali on lateral pairs usually more prominent than those on directives.
Columella a compressed tubercle.
