Cycloseris sinuousa

Cycloseris sinuousa

Nemenzo, 1983

Corallum broad oval -84 x 72 mm across; edge rounded, undulate, slightly irregular. Upper surface slightly elevated (6-10 mm) at center from around one half of radius. Under surface flat, with 3 slightly distinguishable, concentric zones demarcated by shallow, not very distinct furrows. Imperforate.

Primary costae run all the way from edge to center although their ridges are limited to the peripheral zone or area; continued beyond as rows of blunt spines. Seven or 8 low costae intercalated between 2 neighboring primary costae. Lower costae limited to peripheral zone only where they produce distinct ridges; few continued inward as indistinct rows of spines. All costae bear spines with blunt or rounded apices, those of lower cycles more prominent, specially those of primary costae which tower above those of others.

Septa very unequal in height, almost equally thin, hardly thickened near furrow; markedly and finely (closely) crinkled, specially the primaries and secondaries. Edges of primaries and secondaries very irregularly cut into teeth, obvious at the middle of their courses; hardly present towards peripheral and central portions – teeth either tall papilliform or low triangular. Edges of septa of higher cycle (tertiary up) not crinkled, entire, may be slightly wavy. All septal surfaces very granulous.

Central furrow short, around 25 mm long, 3 mm wide. Septa entering furrow have straight vertical edges. Columella has low tubercles mixing with those from septa.

Remarks:
The most distinctive features of these corals are the very obvious crinkled septa with irregularly distributed teeth and unequal costae.
