Abstract/Executive Summary

This arts research explores the lived experiences of adolescents facing technologically facilitated abuse (TFA) through a short film series titled Balangkas, which blends real-life footage and animation. The study examines how mainstream media portrays technologically facilitated abuse (TFA), particularly in the vertically aligned short film series format. It challenges these portrayals through a short film series that focuses on the real experiences of Filipino adolescents. This work aims to promote awareness, reflection, and recovery. To aid the film's creation, the researchers employed mixed methods. They first gathered quantitative data from senior high school students aged 16 to 19 using the CyDAV-T and TAR in Likert-scale questionnaires. Then, they conducted online interviews with six carefully chosen participants. These participants’ stories helped shape the film's narrative and visual style. The film is guided by three stages of Trauma and Recovery Theory: safety, remembrance and mourning, and reconnection. It depicts the realities of digital abuse, the emotional and mental weight carried by survivors, and their journey toward healing. Ultimately, the study adds to conversations about ethical and socially aware media representation while promoting greater awareness of adolescent experiences with technologically facilitated abuse in the Philippines.
