Abstract/Executive Summary

There is a crucial need for monitoring the well-being of children for early intervention to ensure the healthy development of the child. However, traditional methods have limitations in capturing the comprehensive wellness of the children. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Filbis, a chatbot designed to monitor the physical and mental wellness of Filipino children aged 8 to 10 in school settings. The research assesses Filbis’ accuracy in identifying wellness indicators, its ability to engage children effectively, gather comprehensive wellness data, and evaluate user satisfaction and engagement. The research used a mixed-method approach using semi-structured interviews with medical professionals, user feedback forms, observation checklists, and validated scales to evaluate accuracy and effectiveness. The effectiveness will be assessed through thematic analysis and the Chatbot Accuracy and Effectiveness Scale. The results showed that Filbis positively impacted children’s health consciousness as the respondents particularly saw the chatbot’s strengths in terms of its realistic and engaging personality, welcoming approach, ease of navigation, and appropriateness of responses. The chatbot also performed well enough to improve the mood of 72.73% of the children it interacted with, as the research showed that it yielded 90.91% correct physical and mental health and wellness data. The research also showed weaknesses of the chatbot for this use due to the lack of reliability of the children to interact with the chatbot independently. Overall, the study showcases the huge potential of the Filbis chatbot for monitoring the wellness of children while increasing health consciousness and positively engaging its users.
