Abstract/Executive Summary
The fight for gender equality for women is still happening even up to this day. Gender inequalities seem to have a significant effect on the performance of an athlete. The gap in the possibility of marginalization of women basketball players in universities. In light of this, the present study aims to analyze their lived experiences with gender imbalance in the context of their sport. The following questions were addressed in the study: (1.) How do women athletes interpret gender inequality in general? (2) How did these athletes experience gender inequalities in their sport? (3) What were their responses to their experience of inequality in sports? (4) What do they believe can facilitate equality in sports? The researchers used descriptive phenomenology to gain a better understanding of women university basketball players' lived experiences with gender inequity, as well as their prescriptions for eliminating it. According to the results, the participant interprets imbalances to infer that men are stronger in specific areas than women because of men's natural skills. As for the participant's experiences of gender inequality, most women university basketball athletes have encountered being stereotyped. Participants, on the other hand, chose to ignore what has been told to them and move on. While other participants made them as their motivation to do better and to prove those claims wrong. In addition, based on the analysis, participants considered that recognition, exposure, and professional leagues would assist foster gender equality in sports.
