Abstract
One of the major shore protection schemes implemented specifically for carbonate beach sheltered by coral reefs in tropical and subtropical regions where environment and tourism concerns are important is beach nourishment, the deliberate addition of sand to an eroding beach or construction of a beach where only a beach, or no beach, previously existed. In Mactan, Cebu, Philippines, two beach nourishment projects were monitored based on its profile and sediments. Beach profile surveys and sediment characterization were conducted to quantify eroded and accreted beach material and to establish compatible borrow sand as basis for renourishment.
