Abstract

This paper discusses the advantages that Philippine archaeology can gain from adopting geographic information system (GIS) as a database management system. GIS is fast becoming an indispensable tool in archaeological research and a number of archaeological endeavors by other countries that employed the help of GIS can prove its usefulness in the discipline. With the number of Philippine archaeological sites, data and artifacts growing by leaps and bounds every year, it is high time to consider what the present technology can offer to help archaeologists store, analyze, and interpret large amounts of archaeological data in less time.
