Abstract (English)

This study explores the lived experiences of young Christian Chinese Indonesians in Malang as they negotiate ethnic identity, national belonging, and religious commitment in a post-authoritarian context. Using a descriptive phenomenological approach, the research analyzes narratives from twenty participants to uncover how identity is constructed, contested, and embodied in everyday life. The findings reveal that identity is not merely inherited but vocationally negotiated through tensions between genealogical and cultural markers, experiences of inclusion and marginalization, and the formative roles of family, church, and broader society. The study also highlights processes of hybridity, intergenerational shifts, and evolving forms of nationalism and citizenship among minority youth. Theologically, the research reframes identity through the lens of imago Dei and vocation, emphasizing faithful presence within pluralistic society. Practically, it proposes a contextual formation module for churches to foster intercultural competence, inclusive belonging, and reflective patriotism. This study contributes to social identity theory and discussions on hybridity by demonstrating how minority identities are dynamically shaped within post-reform Indonesian society.

Sinusuri ng pag-aaral na ito ang mga karanasang-buhay ng mga kabataang Kristiyanong Chinese Indonesian sa Malang habang kanilang pinagtatagpo at pinaghaharap ang etnikong identidad, pambansang pag-aari, at panrelihiyong paninindigan sa isang kontekstong post-awtoritaryan. Gamit ang deskriptibong fenomenolohikal na lapit, sinusuri ng pananaliksik ang mga salaysay mula sa dalawampung kalahok upang maunawaan kung paano nabubuo, nahahamon, at naisasabuhay ang identidad sa pang-araw-araw na buhay. Ipinapakita ng mga natuklasan na ang identidad ay hindi lamang minamana kundi patuloy na hinuhubog bilang isang bokasyon sa gitna ng tensyon sa pagitan ng pinagmulan at mga kultural na palatandaan, mga karanasan ng pagtanggap at marginalisasyon, at ang humuhubog na papel ng pamilya, simbahan, at mas malawak na lipunan. Itinatampok din ng pag-aaral ang mga proseso ng hybridity, mga pagbabago sa pagitan ng mga henerasyon, at ang umuusbong na mga anyo ng nasyonalismo at pagkamamamayan sa hanay ng kabataang minorya. Sa larangan ng teolohiya, muling binibigyang-kahulugan ng pananaliksik ang identidad sa pamamagitan ng lente ng imago Dei at bokasyon, na nagbibigay-diin sa tapat na presensya sa loob ng isang pluralistikong lipunan. Sa praktikal na antas, inihahain nito ang isang kontekstuwal na formation module para sa mga simbahan upang paunlarin ang kakayahang interkultural, inklusibong pakikibahagi, at mapanuring pagkamakabayan. Nag-aambag ang pag-aaral na ito sa social identity theory at sa diskurso ng hybridity sa pamamagitan ng pagpapakita kung paano dinamikong nahuhubog ang identidad ng mga minorya sa lipunang Indonesya pagkatapos ng reporma.
