Abstract/Summary
Birthday ni Meimei! is a 46-page digital interactive children’s storybook that centers on the story of a young girl celebrating her 7th birthday. As the main character, Meimei, navigates the day, she is put in certain situations where she is prompted to make a choice. These situations are contextualized within the dynamics of Filipino culture and family relations, such as choosing a birthday dress, whether or not to hug a relative, and having a disagreement with a friend. Apropos of the scarcity of children’s literature that tackles heavy subjects like sexual violence in the Philippines, the story will introduce the concepts of consent, bodily autonomy, and personal boundaries to the audience, serving as a supplementary teaching material that will lay groundwork for more comprehensive sexuality education later on.

The art style draws inspiration from the Cartoon Network animation show Chowder, with its two-dimensional and pattern-heavy textures. Finally, the project will be distributed through a website, where audiences can view and download the story.
