Abstract/Summary
Pop That Issue is a 2 episode online talk show with a running time of 60 minutes each. It aims to tackle various forms of pop culture and how they impact, reflect, and relate to social issues. Pop culture can be directly or indirectly related to issues, either encouraging or discouraging their prevalence. With this, each episode has different topics and 3 guests who shared their knowledge, opinions, and experiences on how the form of pop culture relates to the issues they encounter in their industry. The talk show was able to highlight varying perspectives as the guests were from different backgrounds. The talk show was created with the hopes of publishing further episodes if the project would become a success.
The talk show has 2 hosts to facilitate the discussion and provide insights on the interviews. Beginning with a pilot episode about Beauty and Empowerment, the guests are beauty queens who have joined beauty pageants in the country. While the second episode is about Casting in Media where the guests are directors and casters from local media networks.
To adhere to university protocols and limitations brought by Covid-19, the talk show was made purely online, from contacting guests to writing the script, shooting through Zoom, and collaboratively working on the final cut of each episode. The interviews were done separately, combined, and finished with frames, music, and other visual aspects. The medium chosen for the project is a step further from the popular podcasts since there are visuals involved to enhance the experiences of the audience. Through an online talk show, the proponents were able to practice doing productions in an online setting which is necessary during the pandemic. It is able to connect the guests, hosts, and potential audiences in the safety of their homes, through their mobile devices.
