Abstract/Summary

“05:50” features a story of a mother and child about love, grief, and regrets told through three originally written palindromes. The narrative opens with Nora and her newborn son Aron. The son grows up and embarks into his teenage life, however, distant from his mother who is unknowingly neglecting him due to her painful childhood. He becomes lost with no direction in his life when he reaches adulthood as he succumbs to vices. After a heated confrontation with his son, Nora is devoured by her pent up guilt for falling short of raising her son right, and then takes her own life for her feelings of hopelessness. This incident becomes a turning point that drives Aron to reflect on his actions and change his life. He quits his vices, gets a degree, finds a job, and makes new friends. With the eventual birth of a new journey in his life, he pays a visit to his mother’s grave and gladly talks about his journey of finding himself.

The narrative is divided into three pivotal parts: “The Trip Down Memory Lane,” “The Decision Of A Lifetime,” and “The Road To A New Beginning.” Each part of the screenplay features an original palindrome that tells the story, presenting a distinct way of writing a narrative. This is manifested through the dialogues and narrations of the characters.
