Abstract/Summary
In the Philippines, tricycles are the most prevalent modes of transportation that feeds and supplements other modes of transportation. In Panay Island, there are different provinces that has different physical and economic status which can affect the number of tricycles. This study aims to analyze and assess the current tricycle service operation and practices and municipalities in Panay Island. It also aims to determine the relationship between the socio-economic and physical characteristics of the LGU to the number of tricycles operating in each municipality while also being able to characterize the supply and service operating characteristics of the existing tricycle service in each of the municipalities in the Island of Panay. Spatial maps are also developed to compare the tricycle numbers to other physical and social characteristics in the study area. To determine the relationship of the population of the tricycles of the study area to its socio-economic and physical characteristics, multiple linear regression is to be used. After obtaining the data from different public transportation route plans and getting the coordinates from different online sources like OpenStreetMaps and Google Earth, mapping and analysis is performed using QGIS and Microsoft Excel. Results show that factors such as road length, population, annual average income, number of schools, employment rate, and number of households are mostly positively correlated to the number of tricycle units in the study area. The study also shows that as other factors increase in the study area, the number of tricycle units would also increase.
