Abstract/Summary

This Action Research discusses about the introduction of a records and financial management system for Doctor’s Pharmaceutical Homeowners and Residents Association, Inc. or DPHORAI, a non-profit organization that seeks to address the needs of the residents of Doctor’s Pharmaceutical Housing Project (DPHP), a housing village at the heart of South Caloocan City. Over the years, the association had been suffering from mismanagement and lack of commitment. With the aid of Action Research, we were able to determine that the problem was that the association hasn’t been able to monitor the changes in the demographics of its residents, and even its financials has also suffered due to lack of constant and regular monitor and oversight. Therefore, to resolve this issue, we introduces a records management system that could help the association monitor its finances, as well as its resident population, for a variety of reasons, including (and most notably) security.

After 2 Action Research cycles, and with the aid of Beer’s Model, we were able to implement the system. This model encourages a collaborative effort in determining what needs change, the processes needed for change to happen, and how it could be implemented. This action research helped in broadening up my perspectives towards people, helped me know them even more, and even introduced myself to them and hopefully broke any stereotypes that they may have on me. Equally important as well is that I learned to value constant collaboration and commitment towards change.
