Abstract/Summary

This study develops and evaluates a sound-slide learning package in stoichiometry. The development phase was divided into planning and preparation stage and the design and development stage. This study was able to produce 100 slides for the introductory topics and 87 slides for stoichiometry. The evaluation phase was also divided into formative and summative evaluation. The effectiveness of the package was measured in terms of the achievement of first year AB students who were taught stoichiometry and some introductory topics using the developed sound-slide series. A One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design was used in this study and a 67-item Chemistry achievement test was constructed by the researcher to serve as both the pretest and posttest. The data collected were subjected to t-test for dependent samples at the 0.05 level of significance. The results of the formative evaluation revealed that the experts and teacher evaluators considered the package as having very good technical and educational components. The teacher's guide (TG) was rated very good, which means that the developed TG could be used as guide in presenting stoichiometry using the developed sound-slide series. The sound-slide presentation was also rated very good by the teacher evaluators which means that the developed sound-slide presentation could be used as learning aid for students in understanding the concept on stoichiometry. Students' responses in the structured interview revealed that they found it easier to learn stoichiometry using the developed media because they enjoyed the sound-slide presentation. Results of the computation of t-test revealed that the package was found effective in teaching stoichiometry. Thus, the package can be used as a teaching and learning aid in stoichiometry.
