Abstract/Summary
Educators and educational leaders play a vital role in the development of students holistically. It is the responsibility of the educators and leaders to be the bridge that helps the students travel safely through the turmoil of life. Bridges that offer guidance and support to the student’s life. As what Pope Francis stated (CV38) that those who are no longer young need to find ways of keeping close to the voices and concerns of young people. “Drawing together creates the conditions for the Church to become a place of dialogue and a witness to life-giving fraternity”. We need to make more room for the voices of young people to be heard: “listening makes possible an exchange of gifts in a context of empathy. Hence, this dissertation was an attempt to explore the main concern on what is really going on in Don Bosco Schools in the Philippine North Province. Being a “Salesian Educator” was a good reference to discover and identify how loving- kindness is manifested towards students and how it is being practiced in Salesian schools.
The Classic Grounded Theory Methodology was utilized to identify how educators resolve the main concern. The participants were purposely selected to provide a substantial response to the substantive area of interest. The data gathered from the participants were analyzed to understand the phenomenon through constant comparison analysis– open coding, selective coding, until theoretical saturation is reached and the core category was identified.
Manifesting Compassion was the emergent theory which accounts for the pattern of behavior among the educators in Don Bosco Schools in the Philippine North Province and Being Caring was the main concern of the school leaders. The main concern was continually resolved by Being Present, Being Helpful, Expressing Love, Transforming Discipline, and Being Humane.
