Abstract/Summary
This study emerged a substantive theory on spirituality out of the different notions of spirituality of De La Salle University academic administrators and the way the question is considered by them using the classic grounded theory. The theory conceptualizes spirituality as a basic psycho-spiritual process, consisting of a four-fold interrelated steps. They are (1) Discerning God’s Purpose in Life; (2) Praying the Vision; (3) Growing in the Spirit of God; (4) Committing to God and Walking the Mission. This iterative process represents and embodies the stakeholders’ overall understanding of spirituality as a journey to personal integration and wholeness. The emerged theory also led to the discovery of archetypes that conceptually elaborated its explanatory power. The archetypes are (1) the stargazer and the wayfinder; (2) the master-builder and the mooring master; (3) the fire-keeper and the torch-bearer; and (4) the bridge-builder and the cross- carrier. As frames of reference, they conceptually and symbolically explain the way the stakeholders of the study navigated or “resolved” the question of spirituality in their lives as academic leaders.
