Abstract/Summary

A poetry creative writing thesis invested in the emotional structure and intimacies of longing. It will aim to portray the different facets of longing through the alternate stories of the insignificant other: the lover, inamorata, paramour, the kept men and women, the ones whose stories were silenced and forbidden. The collection will consist of ten poems in the mode of both narrative and lyric poetry making use of multiple voices in free verse and prose form. Concurrently utilizing eminent narratives in time as early as the story of Adam and Eve to the portrait of the contemporary couple. The poems aim to reveal that longing is not only for the man in relation to his wife and woman in relation to her husband but as well as men and women whose relation were never in accordance to the accepted truth. The collection will dwell on the complexities of the relationship to its absence in its illegitimacy, the physical absence of the beloved, to the presence imagined by the lover even in the beloved's exile.
