Abstract/Executive Summary
Biofuel could serve as a potential energy source to replace fossil fuels. Assessment through bibliometric analysis and VOSviewer could identify the future and trajectory of the said research field. This paper focuses on assessing the overall state of biofuel research by conducting a bibliometric analysis. 288 published articles from 2005-2024 will be processed into a bibliometric software titled VOSviewer to map out key trends, articles, and authors within biofuel research. Bibliometric analysis could allow the metrics of the research field to be assessed regarding its growth, while the use of VOSviewer could allow themes of the research to be revealed. The bibliometric analysis revealed that the research field of biofuel is currently thriving. Numerous biofuel related articles are being published in journals related to renewable energy. Three major themes were produced, mainly, characteristics and waste management of biofuel, as well as microalgae. In conclusion, the field of biofuel research could prove key in advancing the development of sustainable and renewable energy
