Abstract/Executive Summary

Math anxiety, characterized by feelings of tension or fear when dealing with mathematics, is a prevalent issue among students that can significantly affect their academic performance and career choices. This research aims to understand the effect of math anxiety on students, as treating and reducing anxiety is crucial since it tends to exacerbate over time. The study investigates the effect of math anxiety on the career interests of De La Salle University Senior High School students in mathematics-related fields. A Likert-style survey was administered online among 116 participants to assess anxiety levels. Survey questions were grouped based on math assessments, teaching methods, and mathematical abilities. The study used correlational analysis, revealing a negative correlation between math anxiety levels and math career interests. This negative correlation was strong regarding students' perceived mathematical abilities, moderate regarding teaching methods, and weaker concerning math assessments. It also showed that higher math anxiety levels among senior high school students are associated with a decreased likelihood of pursuing mathematics-related careers and vice versa.
