Abstract/Executive Summary

In an era of numerous global challenges, educational institutions must equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to address these issues. International Collaboration Programs focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) linked to Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) are key initiatives in this regard. However, despite the emphasis on integrating SDG programs into education, there is a lack of research regarding their impact. Therefore, this qualitative case study utilized Robert Yin's approach, examining the experiences and challenges faced by participants, analyzing the effect of these programs on their (i) personal growth, (ii) global awareness, and (iii) preparedness for contributing to global sustainability. Eight high school participants from St. Patrick School of Quezon City were sampled purposively and given open-ended questionnaires to capture their perspectives. Thematic data analysis was employed to extract insightful themes within the qualitative data. Results reveal that these programs improve the participants' personal growth and global engagement, enabling them to acquire skills such as problem-solving, effective communication, teamwork, and adaptability to address global issues. Participants developed a sense of social responsibility, taking self-initiated actions, and motivation to contribute to global sustainability with the skills and knowledge acquired. This research significantly contributes to understanding the transformative impact of UN SDG initiatives at the high school level, emphasizing the importance of these programs in shaping students' global awareness and engagement. The insights gathered provide valuable recommendations for individuals and organizations, urging their involvement in and development of programs fostering the SDGs.
