ABOUT THE 2024 CONFERENCE

The DLSU Libraries, in collaboration with the Philippine Normal University Library and Information Science Alumni Association (PNULISAA), will host a two-day online conference on 01 - 02 August 2024 with the theme “Tapping the Uncharted: Advancing Library Practices in Evolving Landscapes.”

The 5th Conference on Library and Information Studies (CLIS 2024) aims to gather local and international communities of library and information professionals, practitioners, LIS educators, and students to venture, share, and unpack the less discussed topics in the field of library and information studies and eventually make the participants more confident in navigating these landscapes.

A pre-conference workshop will also be held in conjunction with the main event. The workshop intends to provide a venue for interactive and collaborative learning and includes discussions, Q&A's, and hands-on activities.


CONFERENCE THEMES

Libraries are dynamic organizations adapting to contemporary trends, technological advancements, and evolving user needs. This ensures their enduring relevance and service efficacy for a diverse and ever-changing clientele. However, amidst the developments, there are critically important yet less explored domains within the field of library and information studies that deserve greater attention. By venturing into these uncharted territories, libraries can not only ensure their survival but also flourish as vibrant community hubs, empowering patrons with knowledge, safeguarding cultural heritage, and nurturing lifelong learning - all within the ever-evolving landscape of our world. With this, the conference aims to touch on these uncharted fields and provide a deeper understanding of how to address these less familiar challenges.

The Conference will explore the following sub-themes:

1. Unbounded Knowledge

  • Emerging technologies: Examining the impact of AI, blockchain, virtual reality, and other technologies on information landscapes.
  • Data science and information exploration: Exploring new methods for information analysis, visualization, and knowledge discovery.
  • Unconventional data sources: Investigating alternative sources of information, like citizen science, social media, and sensor networks.

2. Uncharted User Groups

  • Underserved communities: Addressing the information needs of marginalized populations, such as refugees, people with disabilities, or rural communities.
  • Specialized domains: Exploring the unique information needs of specific fields, like healthcare, environmental science, or indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Future generations: Envisioning information services for future populations and their evolving needs.

3. Unconventional Library Services

  • Innovation in information delivery: Exploring alternative models for information access, like mobile libraries, makerspaces, or community information hubs.
  • The ethics of information: Addressing issues like data privacy, misinformation, and algorithmic bias in library services.
  • Reimagining the library building: Designing library spaces that foster collaboration, creativity, and community engagement.
  • User-centric services: Designing library services and spaces based on user needs and preferences.

4. Uncontested Landscapes

  • Global and cultural challenges: Addressing challenges related to diversity, equality, and inclusivity in libraries; embracing global perspectives while maintaining the library’s core identity and appeal.
  • Information literacy and lifelong learning: Challenges in digital literacy, supporting lifelong learning initiatives, and providing resources for continuous education.
  • Memory, legacy, and conscience: Embracing archival literacy.

PRESENTATION FORMAT

  • Oral presentation (15 minutes)

SUBMISSION FORMAT

  1. Paper Presentation
    Interested authors may submit a research paper, conceptual paper, case study, or literature review. All submissions must:
    • be original and have not been published or presented at any other conferences
    • be written in English
    • provide 700-1,100 words thorough overview of the paper
    • adhere to the structure of the extended abstract (download template HERE)
    • include 5 -10 keywords
    • be submitted in Word format, Times New Roman, 12 pt
    • include the following information about the author: complete authors’ name, institutional email address, author affiliation
  2. Workshop
    Interested authors and/ or workshop organizers may submit their workshop proposals. All submissions must:
    • be original and have not been presented at any other conferences
    • be written in English
    • provide 500-700 words thorough overview of the proposal
    • accomplish the workshop proposal form HERE
    • be submitted in Word format, Times New Roman, 12 pt

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

All proposals must be submitted online via animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph. Interested authors may submit a maximum of three abstracts.

  1. Go to animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph and click My Account.
  2. Create a new account by clicking “Sign up.”
  3. Fill out the form. Your email address will be used as your username, and you will be asked to create a password. Please ensure the correctness of the information you enter as it will be used for official communications such as Letter of Acceptance, Letter of Invitation, and Conference Program.

Confirmation email

  1. Check your email for the confirmation link to activate your account and continue with your submission.

Submit abstract to CLIS 2024

  1. Click “Submit an abstract to CLIS 2024
  2. Log in using your username and password. Check the “I’m not a robot.”
  3. Fill out the submission form and upload the following documents in Word Document format (.doc or .docx file format). Make sure to choose the correct document type you are submitting (Paper Presentation or Workshop). File name format: CIS2024_LastName_FirstNameInitial_Abstract (example: CIS2024_DelaCruz_Juan_Abstract).

Receive submission confirmation

  1. After submission, you will receive an auto-generated email confirmation that your abstract has been received.

CONFERENCE FORMAT

The program of the conference includes oral presentations and workshops. The conference includes a one-day pre-conference workshop, two days of sessions, learning opportunities, networking, copies of presentations and book of abstracts, certificates of participation with CPD points, and more.

AUTHOR ENTITLEMENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Authors of accepted papers shall receive a certificate of presentation and a book of abstracts. Registration fee is waived. In case workshop by organization/ association, registration fee of only one member is waived.

Responsibilities of Author

  • Register for and attend the Conference.
  • Present the paper in English in about 15 minutes maximum.
  • Conduct workshop in English in about 1-2 hours.
  • Grant permission for possible audio and video recording, web broadcast, and archiving in DLSU Institutional Repository.
  • Assign rights to the Conference Organizers as all papers will be disseminated to all participants in the Book of Abstracts.
  • Provide completed papers and conference materials in an electronic version by the deadline, June 17, 2024, Monday
  • REVIEW PROCESS

    Each submission will be subjected to a blind peer-review. Abstracts that do not adhere to the submission format will be rejected. We anticipate sending a notification of acceptance two weeks after submission. All submissions will be evaluated according to the following rubrics:

    • Non-receipt of final papers by this deadline means non-participation for oral presentation at the conference.

    A workshop on conducting a systematic literature and meta-analysis will be conducted.
