Abstract / Executive Summary
This study investigates the effects of student performance reports on students, focusing on their academic, emotional, and behavioral responses. These reports are designed to provide students and their parents with timely updates on academic progress and areas for improvement. This research explores how students perceive and respond to these evaluations, emphasizing both positive and negative outcomes, with the goal of fostering a supportive and effective learning environment. Findings from student surveys reveal that performance reports are generally effective in enhancing students' understanding of their academic standing, fostering motivation, and encouraging self-reflection. Many students feel recognized for their hard work and report that the feedback helps them take responsibility for their learning. Additionally, the reports support parent-child communication regarding academic progress, strengthening collaboration between home and school to promote student success. However, some students experience stress and anxiety, particularly when they focus on grades rather than learning progress. A few students also expressed a desire for more personalized and detailed feedback to feel more supported by their teachers, highlighting the importance of balancing praise with constructive criticism. This study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by examining ways to improve student engagement and motivation through effective feedback mechanisms. By refining performance report practices, schools can contribute to building inclusive, equitable, and quality education systems. It provides recommendations for designing student-centered performance reporting systems that promote encouragement, resilience, and a growth mindset while minimizing adverse effects. The findings aim to optimize the use of performance reports as tools for student empowerment, academic success, and personal growth.
