The 3rd International Social Sciences and Humanities Conference (ISSHCON 2027) will be hosted by the College of Liberal Arts of De La Salle University from August 12 to 14, 2027, at the De La Salle University Laguna Campus in Biñan, Laguna, Philippines.
Guided by the theme “Crisis, Continuity, and Change: Reconfiguring Southeast Asia in a Time of Global Uncertainty,” ISSHCON 2027 examines the forces reshaping Southeast Asian societies amid significant regional and global transformations. Political instability, economic restructuring, environmental pressures, public health challenges, technological change, and shifting cultural landscapes continue to alter institutions, communities, identities, and everyday life across the region. At the same time, longstanding social structures, cultural traditions, local knowledge, and collective practices continue to shape how societies understand and respond to these transformations.
The conference takes the intersections of crisis, continuity, and change as a critical lens for understanding contemporary Southeast Asia. Rather than viewing disruption and continuity as opposing conditions, ISSHCON 2027 invites closer examination of how they coexist and interact: how institutions adapt while retaining established structures, how communities negotiate change while sustaining cultural and social practices, and how new possibilities emerge from periods of uncertainty.
Bringing together perspectives from across the social sciences and humanities, ISSHCON 2027 provides a space for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary inquiry into these processes. The conference seeks to deepen understanding of Southeast Asia’s changing political, social, cultural, economic, health, and environmental landscapes while generating critical perspectives on how the region may navigate present challenges and imagine possible futures.
