Abstract
This paper explores the critical role of librarians and archivists in preserving and ensuring access to our rapidly growing digital cultural heritage. In the face of technological obsolescence, data decay, and the ephemeral nature of online content, these professionals face unprecedented challenges in safeguarding our collective digital past. This paper delves into the unique challenges of preserving digital materials, including "bit rot" (data decay), file format obsolescence, and the ephemeral nature of online content. Ethical considerations, such as copyright, privacy, and the ethical implications of digitizing and disseminating sensitive cultural information, were examined. The paper highlights the crucial need for collaboration between librarians, archivists, technologists, and cultural institutions to develop sustainable preservation strategies and ensure the long-term accessibility of our digital cultural heritage.
