Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has profoundly transformed human activities and industries, including education, business, healthcare, entertainment, and the arts. The creative and artistic sector, in particular, has been significantly impacted, giving rise to public discourse around AI-generated art, commonly termed "AI art ."Advances in generative AI tools have disrupted traditional artistic practices by enabling rapid and seamless image generation from text prompts. These emerging AI technologies have introduced various economic, legal, ethical, and philosophical debates surrounding creativity in AI-generated works. In line with this, this paper examines the implications of generative AI on art and creativity, posing the central question: "Can generative AI be considered creative?" It explores the use of generative AI, the concerns associated with its utilization, and the potential for artificial creativity. The study advances the hypothesis that generative AI can be regarded as art if the concept of creativity is reconceptualized to include the distinctive capacities of AI. Employing the normative theory of art, which evaluates the value of art, this research investigates how generative AI influences artistic expression and redefines creativity. It finds many concerns about integrating AI into the artistic and creative domain. However, the value of generative AI offers a unique opportunity to expand artistic possibilities and redefine creativity by embracing its role as a co-creative. By analyzing its transformative role in the artistic domain, the paper contributes to ongoing discussions on AI’s role in art, offering a philosophical perspective on the evolving relationship between technology and creativity.
